Anne Murray Mentors Tonight

annemurray.jpg

Tonight, our Top 4 tackle the Anne Murray songbook. Should be interesting hearing Earl, Theo, Drew and Mitch interpret the icon's work, songs so closely associated with a female voice.

Anne Murray doesn't envy the Canadian Idol competitors.

As someone who has established herself as a musical icon over the past 40 years, she says she still wouldn't be able to do what they do.

"They're all sweet and they're all trying so hard and working so hard and I wouldn't trade places with them for all the tea in China. I figure if you can go through these grueling weeks that they've gone through after this they'll be able to do just about anything," says Murray.

The legendary Canadian songstress mentored the remaining four Idol competitors this week, something the show has been trying to get her to do for years.

She was reluctant at first because it would mean time away from her summers spent back home in Nova Scotia, but this year the show's persistence paid off and she decided to do it.

The experience ended up being a lot of fun.

"It was great fun," says Murray. "I really thought long and hard on this whole thing and I've been watching them for a few weeks just to prepare myself so I would have some real criticism, or some constructive criticism for them, and I've thrown it their way and they can either take it or leave it I guess."

Be sure to watch tonight at 9. And then tune in to tomorrow's results show for performances by Anne Murray and Jordin Sparks.
