Catching Up and Saying Goodbye

Hello, all.

Sorry for my absence. Canada Day took me away from my computer and, more shockingly, my television. So I'm only now catching up on all things Idol....

Canada voted and Lisa Bell from Winnipeg, MB, Paul Clifford from Port Moody, BC, Jesse Cottam from Calgary, AB, and Jessica Sheppard from Toronto, ON, will not be moving forward on Canadian Idol.

Unique about the eliminations this week was that the four best performances of the previous nights were called upon to perform again. It's rare that we're given a glimpse of the front-runners so early in the game. Could this influence voting patterns? Maybe. But I happen to believe that the best should win, not just the one with the largest extended family (monopolizing the phone lines, naturally).

Farley chose Theo Tams and his version of Howie Day's "Collide."

Zack Werner chose Amberly Thiessen and her version of Bread's "Everything I Own."

Jake Gold chose Oliver Pigott and his version of Elton John's "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word."

Sass Jordan picked Omar Lunan's version of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine."

Agree with their picks? I think I'm siding with Farley here. Theo was brilliant. And there's always this to make my heart soften a little:

Theo Tams from Lethbridge, AB, was next singing Howie Day's "Collide." He said he went to India in 2006 and volunteered at an orphanage. During that time, he discovered who he wants to be.

Come back shortly for this week's exit interviews. And be sure to tune in Monday to see the first group of the Top 16 perform.
