Idol Gives Back...Except to Michael Johns

michaeljohns.jpg

Apparently history does not repeat itself. Last year no one was sent home during Idol Gives Back week, and I fully expected the exact same thing to happen this year. All through the show I was making fun of the “results”, completely confident that no one would be sent packing. And just like that, I was wrong (mark this day on your calendars, folks….The Day Joy Admitted She Was Wrong. Monumental.)

Anyway, it was adios to Michael Johns this week. Syesha and Carly also found themselves in the Bottom Three (with Carly convinced she was going to be voted off) but both ladies were safe. Everyone seemed really surprised that Johns was the one to be leaving. I’ll admit, if we are judging by who is least talented, Kristy Lee should have been sent home. But she gave a better performance on Tuesday than the Aussie, and apparently that paid off for her. So far she’s been one lucky girl, avoiding the cast-off week after week…but she better be working the voodoo dolls with a heavy hand if she hopes to squash the competition any longer.

Other than the Michael Johns shocker, it was a typical night on Idol. There were the obligatory Idol Gives Back re-caps and more pre-taped videos of celebrities asking for donations, as well as extended footage of Forrest Whitaker in Angola and Bono in Africa. Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown performed their hit “No Air”, looking every bit as adorable as two cute teenage popstars could be. The three presidential hopefuls all made pre-taped video appearances, asking the public to continue to donate to the charities spotlighted in Idol Gives Back; Hillary Clinton, aka Broom-Hilda, looked scary in the fluorescent light (her eyes are too far apart), McCain couldn’t refrain from making jokes about the primaries and immigration (not appropriate, dude…but tell me, what was it like to live when dinosaurs roamed the Earth??) and Barack Obama…seriously, how can you not like the guy? Obama for President!

So we’re down to 7 on Idol…and 6 of them are pretty damn talented. At this point its becoming clear who the front-runners are shaping up to be; I don’t wanna commit quite yet (I have commitment issues…my therapist and I are working on it) but I’m thinking its gonna come down to two guys with the same name…

And that’s a wrap! In this week’s spirit of philanthropy I urge you all to continue donating whatever you can to charity…time, money, goods…any and every contribution counts. No excuses. And I’ll even make it easy for you, I’ll re-post my list of fave charities and you can have your pick. Now get out there and do some good in the world…you’ll be glad ya did.
