Mark Day Heads Home. To Visit.

mark day.jpg

Mark Day, one of this season's youngest competitors and the only remaining Newfoundlander, returned for a short visit home to Portugal Cover on Friday. He was met by a crowd of 200 whom he then sang for as appreciation for their continued support.

Once he finished signing T-shirts for a group of young children - and checking with their parents if it was OK to sign their soccer jerseys - Day greeted the crowd of around 200 people and asked if they would like to hear him sing.

"Don't all answer at once, if you don't want to, you don't want to," he said, laughing.

"I'll sing a bit of the song I sang to get my gold ticket, which started it all for me."

Day sang a few bars of "The Power of Love," by Engelbert Humperdinck, and then "Stay" by Sugarland as a request for his mother. He finished with "Lean On Me," by Bill Withers, with the crowd joining in.

"Thank you everybody," Day said. "I really appreciate you coming, and I'll be performing either Monday or Tuesday night. Help put me in the top ten."

Read all about his hometown visit here. And be sure to tune in tomorrow night.
