Mookie Says Goodbye

It was his guitar that he smashed on the stage last night. In case you were wondering. I suppose that qualifiers him as more hardcore than if it were a CTV-owned instrument, no?

After receiving his best feedback of the season, he (and fans) was a little shocked to find himself eliminated. But never fear, Mookie fans, this is hardly the last we've heard of him.

Morris, who just graduated from high school, isn't sure what he's going to do next but knows it will involve music.

"I don't know. Just try and write some good songs is what I want to do, just create things because this is all about not creating very much so I'm excited to just let music flow out and play my own songs," said Morris. "Just take it one day (at a time)."

He was the youngest contestant of the Top 5 (he's only 18) and the most successful Torontonian in Idol history.

This is the first time a competitor from Toronto has made it this far in the competition in Canadian Idol's six-year history. Canada's biggest city typically doesn't get behind its Idols like some of the smaller communities do but it was something Morris' mom was trying to overcome by spreading the word and posting election-type signs around the city. Toronto Mayor David Miller even publicly threw his support behind Morris and encouraged Torontonians to do the same.

Morris is not sure if his hometown had any factor on his elimination.

"Maybe, I don't know," he said.

But Morris had a wealth of fans, if the comments on his Idol blog are any indication, with plenty of praise for him and his musical style. He even got a few marriage proposals.

Although it's a bit of a relief to get a break from the show's hectic schedule and get back to normal life, Morris said he will miss it.

"Yeah, I think I definitely will. It kind of ended before I even knew it in a way so I'm happy but I will miss it for sure," said Morris. "I learned a lot of things, just from performing to singing to dealing with people to working on relationships, just life I learned about I think."

The remaining Top 4 are headed to their hometowns this weekend. As musical heroes.
Mookie, too, will be heading home. As a kid with a dream and big talent.

We'll miss you, Mr. Morris.
