Theo Tams: Calgary Herald

Theo's home province is going nuts. As I suppose it should. And while he's an instant Canadian celeb, he insists that he's still a small-town boy at heart (he's from Lethbridge, Alberta).

Now that the competition is over, Tams is bracing himself for the whirlwind of activity that will inevitably follow. First up is the cross-country Canadian Idol tour that begins Nov. 9 and runs until Dec. 22; after that, he's looking forward to recording his album and is hopeful he'll be allowed to contribute some of his own songs.

Tams is taking a break from his post-secondary education ("the horizon's a little different now," he says) but no matter where his burgeoning music career takes him, he says he will always remain true to his Alberta roots.

"I said from Day 1 that I am a small-town boy who plays the piano and, 10 years from now, I'm going to be a small-town boy who plays the piano," he says. "Whether I'm playing for thousands of people, millions of people or my mom in the basement, that's what I'm going to be doing."
