Tiebreaker

You may have heard that American Idol has added a fourth judge to its Coke-touting crew. Kara DioGuardi, whose songs have appeared on over 100 records, will be joining Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and Simon Cowell as they pick over the talent this year.

Okay, that's old news. But what you may not know is this - if there's a tie (two judges for sending a contestant through, two against), the curmudgeonly Cowell will act as tiebreaker. Whatever he says, goes. So, theoretically, there's no point in disagreeing with saucy Simon.

Now, in my opinion (and I know, who asked?), this really weakens the whole competition. Why not just Simon out to find the people he wants to put on the show. Part of the drama of the pre-show was when Simon would choose no, Randy would say yes, and a person's whole future would ride on Paula. This year? Ho hum. Pre-show prediction is we'll see lots of Carrie Underwoods, but not so many Taylor Hicks.
