Tonight's Results: A Goodbye Surprise?

I have no idea if tonight's elimination was a surprise. Maybe to some. Honestly, last night's Beatles performances were so solid, that for the first time this season, I had no idea who to vote for. So I didn't. I know, I know, I'm a total hypocrite, but I just couldn't commit. I wanted the Top 5 to go on forever.

Alas, my love of all of them was not enough to keep all the boys around for another week. Someone had to go. And that someone was...

*SPOILER ALERT*

...Mookie.

Toronto's representation is out, folks. Because we don't vote with the passions of those prairie-dwellers. His rendition of "Come Together" won me over last night. So I was a little bummed. Of course, the fact that Theo and Earl were safe trumped any real disappointment.

I'll post his exit interview tomorrow. In the meantime, let's recap the super-generous compliments tossed his way Monday evening:

"Mookie it was the combination, first of all the whole style that you have going on, just the blend of the rock, the soul, the pop ... plus all of that back phrasing you were doing, just one great big jumbo pot of mmm, mmm, good," said Sass.

Farley commented on how ready the competitors are for the music industry. He wishes he didn't have to say anything; he just wants to be a fan.

"I don't know how many people really know that song was actually taken from an old blues song and I knew you would figure that out or I had a feeling you would and you really captured the old blues soul funk of that thing and to be honest, I think that you can get really carried away sitting here but I think that was the best version of that song I've ever heard," said Zack.

Jake was thinking the same thing as he knows Aerosmith covered the song and he was worried it was going to fall into that when they chose it for Mookie, but he thought Mookie re-invented it and made it his own.

The heat is on, folks. Who's your pick for Idol?
